FROM the early stages of a relationship and wanting to build stronger relationships to relationship difficulties, the Family Relationship Centre can help.
Located in Mackay and Rockhampton, the centre is part of CentacareCQ and is a source of information and confidential advice for families at all stages in their life.
The Mackay centre opened its doors on July 1, 2008 and is currently staffed by a Senior Coordinator, Senior practitioner, seven qualified Family Dispute Resolution practitioners, a trainee practitioner and administration staff.
Their qualified and experienced team are able to offer confidential and impartial services in a welcoming, safe and confidential environment.
Many of the services are either free or offered on a sliding scale, according to the client’s level of income.
Through providing information or referring clients to services in their area that can help, the Family Relationship Centre can assist families strengthen relationships and deal with relationship difficulties.
Where families separate, the Centre provides information, advice, education and dispute resolution (such as mediation) to help people reach agreement on parenting arrangements without going to court.
Rockhampton Family Relationship Centre opened in July 2007, and offers a range of services for families in the region in a safe and welcoming environment.
The Rockhampton Centre is currently staffed by a senior practitioner, six qualified Family Dispute Resolution practitioners, a trainee practitioner and administration staff.
They also have a qualified practitioner based in Gladstone.
As part of their services, the centre offers a dispute resolution service, education and referral service for separated couples who want to resolve parenting issues and make parenting plans without going to court.
Programs to help family disputes
The Australian Government funds a range of services to help separating or separated families resolve their disputes without going to court.
These services assist families dealing with personal and family issues or issues relating to the care of children during family separation and divorce.

Kids in Focus
An essential part of the Family Relationship Centre (FRC) is CentacareCQ‘s Kids in Focus seminar, which helps parents and carers understand how best to support their children through change and separation.

• Fees are free or charged on a sliding scale based on individual income
• Fee waivers are available for individuals with a Centrelink Concession card or Health Care card, or if clients are experiencing financial hardship.
