CentacareCQ urges region to become School Savvy

be School Savvy.
WHILE most families are eagerly counting down the days until school holidays kick off, CentacareCQ is embarking on a very special initiative.
The not-for-profit organisation has launched School Savvy – a Central Queensland wide campaign designed to assist families with school-aged children get back to school ready, and give them the best possible chance at a bright future.
As part of the initiative, CentacareCQ will hold pop-up stores throughout Central Queensland in mid-January including Mount Morgan, Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast, selling pre-loved uniforms and quality stationery at very little cost.
CentacareCQ’s School Savvy project coordinator Anna Morris and assistant coordinator Danielle Mitchell said the project relies heavily on donations received from the local community.
“Coming into this project has really opened our eyes up to just how quickly back to school resources can add up,” they said.
“It really is an expensive exercise -especially taking into account that some families have more than one child attending school.
“We are aiming to help as many students as possible, so as come the end of January they are ready to learn and make the most of their school year.”
Anna and Danielle said it was great to see the community getting behind the initiative.
“So far we’ve had a great response with uniform donations .
“We would like to remind everyone that we are also taking stationery donations such as HB pencils, rulers, scissors, glue sticks and pens – every little bit counts.”
“We have been fortunate enough to partner with St Vincent de Paul (Vinnies), who have embraced the initiative and will be assisting us by putting aside their pre-loved uniforms that are donated at their stores in the region.
“Lifeline has also offered their support, allowing us to have their uniform stock available for purchase at our pop-up stores.”
Anna and Danielle said they wished to thank the generosity of local business Evans Edwards Chartered Accountants who have jumped on board as the first Business Sponsor of School Savvy by committing a total $3000 sponsorship.
This generous sponsorship will be directly used to purchase new stationery supplies.

• Clean out your stationery cupboard at home
• Encourage your boss to look through the stationery supplies storeroom at work
• Stationery items can be dropped off at the CentacareCQ office in Rockhampton or Yeppoon.
